Friends of Red Top Mountain State Park
Partner. Promote. Preserve.
| The Friends of Red Top Mountain is a group of individuals who provide consistent support to the park through financial and volunteer assistance. As volunteers, we contribute to many of the public programs at the park as well as some behind the scenes help to make sure each and every guest has a great time, every time. Below are just a few of the programs and volunteer opportunities we have to offer to families and individuals who want to make time to give back to their community. | |||
|
Homestead Program—We believe The Vaughan cabin was originally constructed sometime around 1843 by the Smith Family of Cassville. The cabin was moved to the park from its original site about 11 miles from its current location. Our team of volunteers helps to keep the cabin alive by representing an 1860’s period of history. Opportunities abound with this program for families to help with interpretation and even cabin improvements. |

Iron Program—The iron industry in Georgia once flourished right on the property that is now Red Top Mountain State Park. The park boasts two iron mines and the remnants of a once thriving industry. The park is now home to two iron furnaces, a blast furnace and a bloomery, which help represent what the iron processing must have been like in the area. At several times throughout the year, we ignite these furnaces and demonstrate the processes used to work iron. As part of our blast furnace demonstration, guests can create their own molds and leave with a work of their very own cast iron art. Volunteers can help with the scratch block molds, help with pouring iron or interpreting the program. |

Halloween—In October, the Iron Hill Trail area becomes home to Ravenwood, a fictional town based on the actual history of the area. Guests ride through on a hayride and enjoy family oriented Halloween stories, hot cider and a snack. This is our biggest single fund-raising activity of the year and is our most volunteer intensive program. Volunteer opportunities abound. |

There are Log books available at the Visitors Center and at The Lodge as well as this online form. Please be sure to log your volunteer time so that our Friend's group will receive proper credit from the State. Try not to duplicate your hours by logging in the books in addition to submitting your hours online.
As you all know, it is VERY important that we maintain a log of all volunteer hours. Please fill out the form below and click the SUBMIT button every time that you volunteer at the Park, go to a meeting, or do anything that has to do with the Friends of Red Top, whether it be in the Park, offsite, at home, or anywhere else.
If you have any questions about this form, or are experiencing difficulty, email us at webmaster@friendsofredtop.org
